Ravensdale : 4 hours (12 kilometre walk*)

General Description: The cadger's Path is an old trading route from Ravensdale to Omeath. This walk probably follows the start of the route but then takes another old track up to the TV mast on the summit of Black Mountain. The Tain Way is then followed back down through Ravensdale Forest.

Start: in Ravensdale village. Walk north towards Newry for a minute and then turn right up the narrow road pictured opposite. The road up to Anaverna is clearly highly sought after as a building location with many new bungalows, presumably people working in the rapidly expanding town of Dundalk. Reach the end of the road and continue up a mountain track. This mountain track passes a curious set of modern stone alignments before rising up the valley pictured below. The summit of Black Mountain is dominated by the TV mast and Clermont burial mound.

Follow the road down from the TV mast to reach a T-junction. Turn left and follow the Tain Way downhill and into Ravensdale Forest. The upper slopes are mostly conifers but lower down; you will enjoy the greater diversity of beech plantations.
